Dear Students and Parents of the Class of 2017,

This is an exciting time for all families of the Class of 2017. There is a sense that change is around the corner. Despite this, one of the traditions of Stonington High School that remains unchanged is the community commitment to providing a safe environment for students the night of graduation.  For the past several years students have been transported to a secure location after graduation for a safe, fun filled all-night party. Fund raising efforts provide games, food, music, magic, party favors, security, and transportation.  Most importantly through fundraising efforts, parents rest assured that their graduate will celebrate their success safely.  This endeavor is not without cost.  Our committee has grappled with what is the cost of safety.  We have examined past success in working with our current venue vs reinventing the wheel.  Ultimately it has been determined the class of 2017 will plan to celebrate graduation in the current tradition.

The general cost for this all-inclusive, all-night event is $160 per student.  A variety of fund-raising options are available in order to defray the cost.  The goal is to have ALL students in the class participate.  Money ought not be a barrier to attendance; however it is expected that all families will assist in some manner with the fundraising.  Our largest planned fundraiser will be a cash raffle.  Ideally we would like all families to participate in selling tickets.  Tickets will be $5 each with cash prizes to be drawn in December for $1000 (1st place) $500 (2nd place) and $250 (3rd place).  The more tickets sold, the fewer other events our class will require.  We plan to supplement the raffle with the annual Flocking Flamingo Fundraiser, bake sales, clothing drives, graduation balloons, and possibly a gala dance.  If fund raising is not something your family cares to participate in, donations are accepted to cover the anticipated cost of the event for your student.

As a committee, we have also determined that it is important to give back to the community.  In this spirit, the Class of 2017 will donate a portion of their safe graduation fundraising to the Stonington Prevention Council.

We look forward to making this a successful year for students and families.  We welcome any and all volunteers to join our effort.  We look forward to working with you in providing a safe, fun filled celebration.  In advance, we appreciate your participation and support in our fundraising efforts.
